Liberia Airport to Nosara: Transfer Guide

Nosara is one of Costa Rica's most beloved destinations — a yoga retreat hub, world-class surf break, and wildlife haven rolled into one. It's also one of the more remote destinations in Guanacaste, which is part of its appeal and part of its logistics.
The Route
From Liberia Airport, the drive to Nosara takes approximately 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes, depending on road conditions and season.
The route heads south on the Interamerican Highway past Nicoya, then cuts west toward the coast. The final stretch into Nosara involves unpaved roads that can be bumpy in dry season and muddy in rainy season. A 4WD vehicle is standard for this route.
Total distance: ~130 kilometers
This is why we recommend booking a professional transfer rather than attempting to navigate this route yourself in a standard rental car.

About Nosara
Nosara is actually three communities: Nosara village (inland, local), Playa Guiones (the main surf beach), and Playa Pelada (a smaller, calmer beach). Most tourists are headed to Guiones.
What makes Nosara special:
- One of the best beginner and intermediate surf breaks in Costa Rica — long, consistent, not overcrowded
- A strong yoga and wellness community (Bodhi Tree Yoga Resort and many independent studios)
- Protected wildlife zones mean development is strictly limited — no high-rises, no massive hotel chains
- Howler monkeys in the trees, scarlet macaws overhead, sea turtles nesting nearby
Nosara attracts a mix of surfers, yogis, families, and people who want to disconnect. It's not a party destination. It's a "come back every year" destination.

Nosara adds a surcharge to the standard Guanacaste pricing due to the additional distance and road conditions.
